Info for parents

Hello from Kernow HQ!

The days are counting down now until the start of our jamboree. I’m sure like us, you are starting to get excited about Kernow Jamboree.

The information on this page will hopefully answer any questions you may have had, and get you and your young person ready for their week away with us.

If there is anything else you want to know please get in touch with your group/unit leaders – if they don’t know, they can always get hold of the Kernow team.

As you may expect, there are a few things you’ll need to sign before you get to us at Kernow.

You’ll be heading out to explore new places in Cornwall in a real-life game of Monopoly. You’ll be given tickets which cover public transport trains and buses in Cornwall and a list of suggested places which are of interest. There will be challenges and tasks to do along the way, and why not dress up for the day as a famous explorer or adventurer…. Bonus points will be on offer!

Wave is the offsite water day. You will be taken to Praa Sands where the activities on offer are surfing or coasteering (youth participants will do one of these). You will also be able to swim in the sea as the beach is lifeguard controlled. We will also provide a range of beach games and activities.

This is the central area of our jamboree and will be a hub of activity throughout the week.  You will be able to charge mobile phone/power packs for a small fee.

Also in basecamp you’ll find a number of retail and food outlets.

We are lucky to be hosting ‘The Cornish Barista’ this year who will be offering great coffee, scrummy snacks and meals alongside fantastic homemade cakes.

There will be a tuck shop selling sweet treats, ice-creams, drinks and snacks.

Our corner shop is there for those essential purchases – need some extra milk? Run out of bread? Somebody forget their toothbrush? We’ll have all of the essentials.

Our Kernow Store – need that Kernow onesie, or can’t leave camp without more badges for the blanket? Come and see us, there will be something for everyone.

Money at the Jamboree site

We are encouraging cashless transactions at the Jamboree.  The retail shops in basecamp will accept cash but contactless is preferred.

We encourage parents to use a preloaded card, such as that offered by GoHenry, as a method of providing spending money for your young people.

There will not be an ATM or cashback facility at the Jamboree.
